Concept
This piece explores the stories of immigrant women, focusing on ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) women, traditional play cultures from China and Korea, language, and personal reflections on the Asian cultural movement within the UK.
In ‘United Steps: A Dance of Many Tales’, Suyoung Park delves into the stories of Chinese female immigrants living in the UK, drawing on her exploration of personal histories and regional connections. The performance features real-life immigrants born in Chongqing and Chengdu, China, who migrated through Japan and Southeast Asia before settling in the UK. Through their lives and movements, Suyoung Park conveys her powerful choreographic theme: “Individual histories collectively form a larger narrative.”
Audiences can expect a fusion of contemporary dance, local community dance, experimental visual projections, live singing performances, and interactive audience participation.
Concept, direction, and choreography are led by Suyoung herself, who will also perform in the piece, showcasing her expertise in dance, acting, and live performance.
